3. Ronald Reagan
Actor turned politician Ronald Reagan was certainly a controversial figure during his time as 40th president of the United States. The Cold War, AIDS crisis, and dodging an assassination attempt isn’t easy for anyone to have on their plate, including Reagan himself. According to my team, Ronald’s wife Nancy kept a journal that was filled with detailed stories about Reagan’s presidency. Perhaps the most interesting story she recorded in that journal was the one her husband told as he was lying on his deathbed, which read, “Hey Nancy, do you ever get that feeling of like when you have to sneeze and it just won’t come out? Because yesterday I had this feeling like I really had to sneeze, and so I tried to look up at the light, because apparently that’s what you’re supposed to do, but for the life of me I couldn’t get that sneeze to come out. So for about ten minutes I start to feel okay, like I don’t have to sneeze…” At this point in the entry Nancy has gone out to buy groceries. Upon her return she continues to record, “… and that damned feeling just keeps coming back. Well, once again I tried to look at the light, and wouldn’t you know it, this time I actually snee—.” That is believed to be the moment Reagan passed. I guess we’ll never know how his story ends. Tragic.
